Baseball Recap: Wayne City Victorious

Wayne City hadn't done well against Red Hill recently (they were 0-6 in their previous six matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Indians came out on top against the Salukis by a score of 4-1. For the Indians, this counts as revenge for the 6-2 win the Salukis walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2025.

Eli Gardner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kayne Gregory was excellent, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Dawson Wood was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

The victory made it two in a row for Wayne City and bumps their season record up to 3-5-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Red Hill, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 7-3.

Looking ahead, Wayne City will challenge Brownstown/St. Elmo at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Red Hill, they will take on Cisne at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Runnin' Lions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.9 runs per game on average), something the Salukis will no doubt try to take advantage of.
