Baseball Recap: Devon Mullin Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat St. Elizabeth

Polytech came out on top against St. Elizabeth on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fifth inning. The Panthers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Vikings a 10-0 shutout.

The result came thanks to Makai Parker's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up 11 Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Polytech is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 4-11 otherwise.

At the plate, Polytech saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Devon Mullin, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Those two hits gave Mullin a new career-high. Elikem Gawuah was another, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Polytech kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.

Polytech's win bumped their record up to 8-11. As for St. Elizabeth, they are on a 13-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-15.

As of now, neither Polytech nor the Vikings have any future games scheduled.
