Baseball Game Preview: San Ysidro Cougars vs. Eastlake Titans

San Ysidro hasn't had much luck against Eastlake recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Cougars will square off against the Titans at 4:00 p.m. San Ysidro's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Eastlake's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

San Ysidro had taken Montgomery down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Friday. The Cougars fell just short of the Aztecs by a score of 3-2.

San Ysidro got a good showing from Marco Hernandez, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Those two hits allowed gave Hernandez a new career-low.

At the plate, San Ysidro saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Armann Robles, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Friday Eastlake sidestepped Bonita Vista for a 7-6 victory. The win continues a trend for the Titans in their matchups with the Barons: they've now won six in a row.

The team relied heavily on Austin Stroberg, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaron Corona, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Eastlake was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.

Eastlake pushed their record up to 14-8-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for San Ysidro, their loss dropped their record down to 15-10.
