Preview: Poway Titans vs. Academy of Our Lady of Peace Pilots
The Poway Titans will head out on the road to face off against the Academy of Our Lady of Peace Pilots at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Academy of Our Lady of Peace took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Poway, who comes in off a win.
Last Tuesday, Poway humbled Cathedral Catholic with a 66-39 victory. With Poway ahead 42-18 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Poway's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ari Mason led the charge by scoring 24 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mackenzie Parsons, who scored 16 points.
Meanwhile, Academy of Our Lady of Peace pushed their score all the way to 56 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Rancho Bernardo 60-56. While losing is never fun, Academy of Our Lady of Peace can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 539th, while Rancho Bernardo is ranked 41st).
Despite their defeat, Academy of Our Lady of Peace saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jillian Nowicki, who scored 24 points along with 6 rebounds and 6 steals, was perhaps the best of all. The contest was Nowicki's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Samantha Gehler, who scored 17 points along with 5 assists and 3 steals.
Democracy Prep Agassi Campus' win bumped their season record to 0-0 while Poway's defeat dropped theirs to 3-2.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Poway and Academy of Our Lady of Peace are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Poway hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 52.5 points per game. It's a different story for Academy of Our Lady of Peace, though, as they've been averaging only 51.6 per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run up the score up higher Come back here after the game to get analysis of the match and other basketball content.
Poway didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Academy of Our Lady of Peace in their previous meeting back in December of 2021, but they still walked away with a 46-40 win. Will Poway repeat their success, or does Academy of Our Lady of Peace have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
