Recap: Washington Huskies vs. Newark Memorial Cougars

The Washington Huskies's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 50-36 to Newark Memorial. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Washington has scored all season.

Washington lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Zariyah Hughes, who scored seven points along with 13 rebounds. Hughes hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Maia Bulnes, who scored 13 points along with two steals.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Newark Memorial to victory, but perhaps none more so than Angelina Baca, who scored 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Scott, who scored 14 points.

Washington bumped their record down to 9-7 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Newark Memorial, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-10.

Washington will be playing in front of their home fans against James Logan at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. James Logan has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Newark Memorial, Newark Memorial and Moreau Catholic will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 18th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Moreau Catholic presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Newark Memorial in California (Moreau Catholic is ranked 206th, while Newark Memorial is ranked 790th).
