Football Recap: Monte Vista Christian Mustangs vs. Stevenson Pirates
While it was all tied up 14-14 at halftime, Monte Vista Christian was not quite Stevenson's equal in the second half on Friday. They took a 36-25 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pirates.

Monte Vista Christian's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Evan Vessey, who threw for 414 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 71.1% of his passes. Vessey's passing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 315 passing yards. Monte Vista Christian's leading receiver Boston Ashe was Vessey's top target yet again, picking up 219 receiving yards.
Monte Vista Christian didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kai Bergthold and Johnny Finney. Another thorn in Stevenson's side was Mike Bronevytskyy, who made nine total tackles (3.0 for loss) and defended one pass.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Stevenson to victory, but perhaps none more so than Caden Olson, who picked up 83 receiving yards and two TDs, and also rushed for 43 yards. Another player making a difference was Fin Mink, who threw for 310 yards and three touchdowns.
Monte Vista Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Stevenson, the win keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monte Vista Christian will challenge Greenfield at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Stevenson, they will square off against Scotts Valley at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
