Recap: Walnut Mustangs vs. Rowland Raiders
There's no place like home for the Walnut Mustangs, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Rowland 58-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Leading Walnut to victory were Claire Olia and Maileeh Suasti. Olia scored 11 points along with seven rebounds, while Suasti dropped a double-double on 25 points and 11 rebounds. The matchup was Suasti's 12th in a row with at least ten points.
Rowland's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isabella Tran, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrienne Bausley, who scored 12 points along with seven assists and five rebounds.
Walnut's victory bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Rowland, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-14.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Walnut will take on South Hills at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Rowland, they will head out on the road to face off against Los Altos at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
