Basketball Game Preview: Cornerstone Christian Cougars vs. Head-Royce Jayhawks

The Cornerstone Christian Cougars will square off against the Head-Royce Jayhawks at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Head-Royce will be up against a hot Cornerstone Christian team: the squad just extended their winning streak to seven. Cornerstone Christian breezed past St. Joseph Notre Dame to the tune of 71-33 on Wednesday. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 50-20.

Meanwhile, Head-Royce came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27 points) and they left with even more momentum. They claimed a resounding 44-14 victory over the Cougars. Given the Jayhawks' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 364th, while the Cougars are ranked 898th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Head-Royce pushed their record up to 16-3 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.8 points over those games. As for Cornerstone Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 16-9.

Cornerstone Christian came out on top in a nail-biter against Head-Royce in their previous matchup back in January, sneaking past 52-50. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cornerstone Christian since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
