Baseball Recap: Mt. Vernon Gets the Win

It may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Mt. Vernon ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Yorktown Tigers 6-5. The Marauders haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Jaxsen Demos looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Mt. Vernon is undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 10-11 otherwise.

At the plate, Mason Meyer was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Gavin Weaver was another key player, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Mt. Vernon's victory bumped their record up to 14-11. As for Yorktown, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-15.

Looking ahead, Mt. Vernon will head out to take on New Castle at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Yorktown, they will face off against Jay County at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season.
