Football Game Preview: Cozad Haymakers vs. Adams Central Patriots

Cozad hasn't had much luck against Adams Central recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Haymakers will welcome the Patriots at 7:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Cozad is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Gothenburg on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Haymakers were beaten by the Swedes 56-21. The Haymakers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-14.

Despite their loss, Cozad saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Olliver Davis, who picked up 108 receiving yards and one score, was perhaps the best of all.

Meanwhile, Adams Central fell victim to Aurora and their airtight defense on Friday. They were outmatched by the Huskies and fell 34-0. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska football rankings (they are ranked 90th, while the Huskies are ranked 35th).

Adams Central's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Cozad, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.

Cozad couldn't quite finish off Adams Central when the teams last played back in October of 2024 and fell 29-26. Thankfully for the Haymakers, Jackson Sughroue (who threw for 258 yards and a pair of TDs, and also rushed for 49 yards) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
