The Salpointe Catholic Lancers will welcome the Sahuaro Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Salpointe Catholic knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Sahuaro likes a good challenge.
On Monday, Salpointe Catholic was fully in charge, breezing past Walden Grove 55-25. The Lancers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matchups by 22 points or more this season.
Sidney Anderson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 9 of 16 on her way to 21 points and five rebounds. Jayci Nelson was another key player, putting up eight points and four steals.
Meanwhile, Sahuaro's game on Tuesday was all tied up 14-14 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They managed a 41-35 win over Ironwood Ridge.
Sahuaro's win came from a few key players Salpointe Catholic will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Maggie Boyd, who went 6 for 11 en route to 13 points along with six boards and three steals. Those 13 points gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Anissa Garcia, who went 5 of 12 on her way to 10 points and six rebounds.
Sahuaro was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ironwood Ridge only racked up four assists.
Sahuaro is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.4 points per game. As for Salpointe Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 17-4.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Salpointe Catholic has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.1 boards per game. However, it's not like Sahuaro struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.5 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
