Baseball Recap: South Point Comes Up Short

South Point extended their losing streak to seven on Monday, dropping them down to 2-18. They lost 10-0 to the Dawson-Bryant Hornets. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Hornets this season, with their most recent defeat being a 10-1 loss last Friday.

South Point saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Owen Tabor, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double. That double was Tabor's first of the season.

As for Dawson-Bryant, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-14. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.

On Dawson-Bryant's side, Derek Bloomfield was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Bloomfield also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Dawson-Bryant is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-13 otherwise. Bloomfield was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Braden Schug was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Dawson-Bryant: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-12 otherwise. Kaden Murphy was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

South Point does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Dawson-Bryant, they are taking a road trip to square off against Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Indians' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Hornets' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
