Basketball Game Preview: Hemet Bulldogs vs. Canyon Springs Cougars

The Hemet Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Canyon Springs Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Canyon Springs will be up against a hot Hemet team: the squad just extended their winning streak to nine. Hemet blew past Liberty 56-28 on Monday. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 328th, while the Bison are ranked 1109th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hemet relied on the efforts of Ruby Gonzalez- Horta, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 boards, and Hailey Wolbeck, who went 6 of 11 on her way to 15 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Gonzalez- Horta is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last ten games she's played. Another player making a difference was Shiloh Wigal, who posted six points and three steals.

Hemet smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in 15 consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Canyon Springs posted their biggest victory since January 9th on Monday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat JW North 56-21. The win was nothing new for the Cougars as they're now sitting on four straight.

Canyon Springs is also on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. As for Hemet, they pushed their record up to 21-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Hemet didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Canyon Springs in their previous matchup two weeks ago, but they still walked away with a 52-46 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hemet since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
