Baseball Recap: Eastern Comes Up Short

Eastern fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Clinton Prairie on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Gophers by a score of 7-6. The Comets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Gophers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

Kaleb Hurt was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Hurt was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Eastern: the team is 9-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-7 otherwise.

Hurt wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Trey Beachy, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. Owen Tolle was another, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for Eastern and nudges their season record down to 15-8. As for Clinton Prairie, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-6.

Eastern wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, an 11-3 victory against Sheridan on the 13th. As for Clinton Prairie, they have also already played their next contest, a 10-3 win against Carroll on the 13th.
