Recap: Providence Pioneers vs. Mayfield Cubs
The Providence Pioneers's game last Wednesday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They enjoyed a cozy 53-34 victory over Mayfield. Given Providence's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 212th, while Mayfield is ranked 698th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, Mayfield still got an impressive performance from Elisa Milkie, who scored eight points. The team also got some help courtesy of Christine Ellis, who scored eight points.
Providence's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points per game. As for Mayfield, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-6.
Providence will head out on the road to face off against Chadwick at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mayfield won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Westridge at 5:00 p.m. on January 12th.
