Softball Recap: Overland Takes a Loss

Overland extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 6-6. They lost 12-2 to the Smoky Hill Buffaloes. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Trailblazers of the 17-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2020.

Overland saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Michaela Halton, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Smoky Hill, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-12. Considering they have won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

On Smoky Hill's side, Ava Matheny was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. That's the most strikeouts Matheny has posted since September 3rd. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Kiley Snyder was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six stolen bases, and four runs. Those six stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ellen Paris, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Overland didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 15-4 loss against Silver Creek on the 2nd. As for Smoky Hill, they have also already played their next contest, a 15-3 defeat against Cherokee Trail on the 4th.
