Baseball Recap: Monroe Comes Up Short

If Monroe was feeling good fresh off their 29-1 takedown of Calhoun County last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Golden Tornadoes took an 11-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Westover Patriots on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Golden Tornadoes of the 15-7 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

Nehemiah Tinch and Javion Tinch did some serious damage despite the final result: Nehemiah scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances, while Javion scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Monroe is 5-1 when Javion posts two or more runs, but 2-12 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Royal, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Monroe has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 13 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. Westover's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-14.

While Monroe had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
