Basketball Preview: Leechburg Blue Devils vs. St. Joseph Spartans
Leechburg is 2-8 against the Spartans since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Leechburg Blue Devils will head out on the road to take on the St. Joseph Spartans at 7:30 p.m. Leechburg will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 528th, while the Spartans are ranked 128th).
On Friday, Leechburg was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 34-33 to the Saints.
Meanwhile, St. Joseph entered their tilt with the Bulldogs with ten consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 11. St. Joseph walked away with a 68-59 victory over the Bulldogs on Wednesday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Julie Spinelli was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 35 points and ten rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last 12 times she's played. Anna Kreinbrook was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 12 rebounds.
Leechburg's defeat dropped their record down to 8-8. As for St. Joseph, their win was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-2.
Leechburg took a serious blow against the Spartans when the teams last played back in January, falling 67-19. Can Leechburg avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
