Preview: Brea Olinda Wildcats vs. Esperanza Aztecs
Brea Olinda is 2-8 against Esperanza since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Both teams will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Brea Olinda will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 334th, while Esperanza is ranked 39th).
Last Saturday, things could have been worse for Brea Olinda, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 49-30 loss to Orange Lutheran. Brea Olinda has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite their defeat, Brea Olinda saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Liz Han, who scored seven points, was perhaps the best of all. Maya Sanborn was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Meanwhile, Esperanza put the finishing touches on their ninth blowout victory of the season on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 75-42 victory over Cerritos on the road. Winning may never get old, but Esperanza sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
Brea Olinda has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season. As for Esperanza, their victory bumped their record up to 17-3.
Brea Olinda suffered a grim 59-37 defeat to Esperanza when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Can Brea Olinda avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
