Softball Recap: Woodland Extends Winning Streak to Two

Woodland hadn't done well against Hampton recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Wolfpack never let the Hornets get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory. The Wolfpack were shut out 8-0 the last time they took on the Hornets, so the Wolfpack were just returning the favor.

Bailey Gurley made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Gurley was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Woodland let Jasmine Huit and Aliyah Allen run wild. Huit went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Allen got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Kyndra Johnson was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Woodland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hampton only posted an OBP of .143.

Woodland has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 runs this season. As for Hampton, they dropped their record down to 1-3 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.
