St. Thomas Aquinas re-enters updated MaxPreps Top 25 high school basketball rankings

No. 12 Paul VI claimed third WCAC tournament title in four seasons with victory over No. 14 Gonzaga.

This week's MaxPreps Top 25 high school basketball rankings welcome one team back into the fold as St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) re-joins the rankings after advancing to the state semifinals.

Three big matchups between MaxPreps Top 25 foes took center stage last week. No. 16 Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) upset No. 2 Harvard-Westlake (Studio City) in California's Southern Section Open Division pool play, No. 6 Hoover escaped with a three-point victory over previous No. 21 Huntsville in Alabama's Class 7A state quarterfinals and No. 12 Paul VI (Chantilly, Va.) claimed the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference tournament title for the third time in four seasons with a four-point win over No. 14 Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.).

More anticipated postseason matchups are on the horizon, beginning tonight as No. 5 Roosevelt (Eastvale, Calif.) takes on St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) with a trip to the Open Division Southern Section title game on the line.

In Texas, No. 8 Allen and No. 22 Lake Ridge (Mansfield) meet in the Class 6A Division 1 quarterfinals.

MaxPreps Top 25 basketball rankings

Blew past Miami 74-44 paced by 22 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists and seven steals from five-star Duke signee Cameron Boozer in the Class 7A state quarterfinals. The Explorers face Seminole on March 7 in their semifinal showdown.

Two-time defending Open Division state champions fell to No. 16 Notre Dame 68-61 despite receiving a game-high 31 points from five-star Duke signee Nikolas Khamenia. Although Harvard-Westlake is now unable to reach the Open Division Southern Section title game, it remains among the favorites to capture the Open Division state title.

Cruised to a 74-53 triumph against Saint Andrew's (Boca Raton) in the Class 3A state quarterfinals. The Eagles battle Cardinal Gibbons (Fort Lauderdale) on Friday with a berth in the state championship game on the line.

Opened Class 6A state tournament action with a pair of lopsided wins, knocking off Reagan (San Antonio) 92-44 behind a game-high 25 points from Sacramento State commit Camden Cowgill and Lake Travis 100-70.

After notching an 89-67 victory over Redondo Union behind 44 points and 12 rebounds from five-star senior Brayden Burries, the Mustangs survived a 65-64 scare against Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth). Burries dropped in the game-winning free throw with 12.2 seconds to go.

In what was likely the de facto Class 7A state championship game, the Buccaneers escaped with a 63-60 win over previous No. 21 Huntsville led by 18 points and 11 rebounds from four-star Tennessee signee DeWayne Brown in the state quarterfinals. Hoover matches up against Central (Phenix City) in the semifinals Thursday.

Top 10 sophomore prospect Bruce Branch III contributed a game-high 26 points in an 83-54 victory over Brophy College Prep (Phoenix) in the second round of the Open Division state tournament. The Pumas continue their quest for a fourth consecutive state title with a quarterfinal showdown against Ironwood on Friday.

Won each of their first two postseason games by 21 points, advancing to the third round of the Class 6A Division I state tournament and a meeting with North Crowley tonight.

Look to conclude regular season action with an unbeaten record, facing North Central (Indianapolis) tonight in their season finale. The Tigers remained unbeaten with a 56-60 triumph against Zionsville led by a team-high 17 points from sophomore guard Cooper Zachary and Stanford football signee JonAnthony Hall.

Top 10 junior Caleb Holt tallied 19 points and 17 rebounds in a 76-38 win over Meadowcreek (Norcross) in the second round of the Class AAAAAAA state tournament. The defending state champions take on Cherokee in the quarterfinals tomorrow.

Tipped off state tournament action with lopsided wins over Colquitt County (Norman Park) and Chapel Hill (Douglasville) to advance to the Class AAAAAAA state quarterfinals and a meeting with Norcross tomorrow.

Top 10 junior prospect Jordan Smith produced 29 points, seven rebounds and three assists to lead the Panthers to a 58-54 victory over No. 15 Gonzaga in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference title game.

Completed the regular season slate with an 87-52 win against J.R. Tucker (Henrico, Va.) anchored by 20 points, eight rebounds and five blocks from four-star junior Latrell Allmond.

Avenged regular season loss with a 90-57 shellacking of Bishop McNamara in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference semifinals before falling to No. 13 Paul VI in the title game. Four-star North Carolina signee Derek Dixon earned WCAC Player of the Year honors at the conclusion of the regular season.

Baylor signee Tounde Yessoufou led the charge with 23 points and nine rebounds in a 61-38 victory over San Joaquin Memorial (Fresno), helping St. Joseph advance to the Central Section Division I title game against Buchanan (Clovis) on Saturday.

Closed out Open Division Southern Section pool play with a 68-61 upset victory over No. 3 Harvard-Westlake (Studio City) paced by 24 points from top-ranked junior Tyran Stokes and 23 points from three-star junior Zachary White.

Enter sectional play as the top seed in the Hinsdale (Central) region after capturing the program's first Chicago Public League title.

Finish the regular season slate this week with contests against Park Hill South (Riverside) tonight and Liberty on Friday. The Northmen have never reached the state title game.

Commenced Class 6A Division 1 state tournament action with a 65-48 victory over Bell (Hurst) before blowing by Eastlake (El Paso) 71-35. The Eagles take on Marcus (Flower Mound) tonight with a trip to the state quarterfinals on the line.

Captured their third consecutive NCISAA Class 4A state championship with a 73-50 win over Carmel Christian (Matthews) behind 19 points, 10 rebounds and five assists from four-star North Carolina State signee Zymicah Wilkins.

Wrap up regular season action with a showdown vs. Chaminade (St. Louis) tonight. The Wolverines are four-time defending state champions in Class 4.

Despite falling behind 19-7 early on, the Raiders rebounded to secure a 62-54 win over Coral Springs to advance to the Class 6A state semifinals and a matchup with Charlotte (Punta Gorda) on March 6.
