Baseball Recap: Houston Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Kenai Central, Houston was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They walked away with a 9-4 win over Non Varsity Opponent. For the Hawks, this counts as revenge for the 14-13 victory Non Varsity Opponent walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2025.

Ethan Spencer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Houston is 2-0-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 4-6 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cleto Brito, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Houston's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 3-5-1 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Sebastian Sanford, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double.

The win got Houston back to even at 6-6-1.

Coming up, Houston will face off against Grace Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Non Varsity Opponent, they will venture away from home to take on Sparta at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
