Basketball Recap: Canyon Crest Academy Falls Despite Big Games from Elena Colon and Audrey Zou

On Tuesday, the Canyon Crest Academy Ravens didn't have quite enough to beat the Kearny Komets and fell 48-45.

Canyon Crest Academy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Audrey Zou, who went 7 of 11 on her way to 15 points, and Elena Colon, who posted eight points and 15 rebounds. Colon is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelly Gorton, who had four points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Canyon Crest Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests.

Canyon Crest Academy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season. As for Kearny, the win got them back to even at 5-5.

Canyon Crest Academy and Kearny's offenses will be put to the test in their next games. Canyon Crest Academy and Santana (who has only given up 27.14 points per game) will meet at 1:30 p.m. on December 30th. Meanwhile, Kearny and The Cambridge School (who has only given up 20.29 points per game) will meet at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
