Recap: Aptos Mariners vs. Menlo School Knights
The Aptos Mariners suffered their biggest loss since December 16, 2023 on Monday. They were the victim of a tough 52-32 loss at the hands of Menlo School. Aptos has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Aptos lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Abby Sherwood, who scored two points along with seven rebounds. Gabby Wickham was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six rebounds.
Menlo School's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ruiqi Liu led the charge by scoring 15 points along with three steals. Liu hasn't dropped below 15points for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Karen Xin, who scored 12 points along with seven assists and five rebounds.
Aptos' defeat dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Menlo School, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Aptos won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Harbor at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th. Harbor has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 14. Menlo School won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Priory at 5:00 p.m. on January 16th. Priory and Menlo School are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
