Basketball Recap: Laton Comes Up Short

Laton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. The contest between them and the Riverdale Cowboys didn't end well, with the Laton Mustangs falling 30-12. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 49-8 back in November of 2024.

Madison Heffley was Laton's leading scorer, having posted five points. Gabriella Alvarado held things down on the boards with eight rebounds. Brooklynn Avila took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with three assists.

Riverdale can attribute much of their success to Karen Ayala, who posted eight points. Valeria Olguin was another key player, putting up eight points.

Laton's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Riverdale, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-5.

Laton wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 32-2 loss against Fresno Christian on the 4th. As for Riverdale, they will face off against Avenal at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Riverdale's defense has only allowed 24.5 points per game this season, so Avenal's offense will have their work cut out for them.
