Basketball Recap: Kailani Ladera Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Coalinga

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Santa Ynez had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 48-33 win over the Coalinga Horned Toads. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pirates.

Santa Ynez's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kailani Ladera led the charge by going 7-for-12 en route to 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Those 14 points gave Ladera a new career-high. Helina Pecile was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with nine points and 12 boards.

Santa Ynez smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive matches.

Despite the loss, Coalinga still got an impressive performance from Brooklyn Davis, who dropped a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds. Davis is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down ten or more in each of the last three games she's played.

Santa Ynez pushed their record up to 16-10 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. As for Coalinga, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 24-6.

Looking ahead, Santa Ynez will host Torres at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Coalinga does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
