Elmwood-Murdock got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Dashiell Coleman out in front who rushed for 158 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries, and also threw for 127 yards and one TD on only ten passes. That's the most rushing yards Coleman has posted since back in September of 2024. Brody Marsh was another key back, gaining 184 total yards and two touchdowns.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Elmwood-Murdock was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 462 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 157 rushing yards in four consecutive games.
Another reason for the win was Elmwood-Murdock's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Carson Towle, Ryerson Kastens, and Dalton Bouzek, who each picked up one sack apiece.
Meanwhile, Cedar Bluffs was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 50-44 to Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The match pitted two dominant s against one another in Trayven Kluthe and Alex Dewberry. Dewberry had a great game and gained 188 total yards and four touchdowns. Meanwhile, Kluthe was balling out in the loss, rushing for 197 yards and four scores.
Elmwood-Murdock's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Cedar Bluffs, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Elmwood-Murdock has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 286.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Cedar Bluffs struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 241 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Elmwood-Murdock against Cedar Bluffs when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 58-14 victory. In that game, the Knights amassed a halftime lead of 36-6, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
