Basketball Recap: San Gabriel Comes Up Short

San Gabriel lost against Bell Gardens back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The San Gabriel Matadors took a blow against the Bell Gardens Lancers, falling 54-7. The Matadors were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-7.

Bell Gardens had a senior duo take command as Eliza Villalobos went 9 of 17 on her way to 21 points and six rebounds and Deanna Moore went 5 for 10 en route to 12 points in addition to six assists and six steals. That's the most assists Moore has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Giselle Ocegueda, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 14 points.

San Gabriel is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-11. As for Bell Gardens, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-15.

San Gabriel has already played their next game (against Mark Keppel), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Bell Gardens will head out to square off against Montebello at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bell Gardens has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
