Football Game Preview: Elgin Comets vs. Perry Commodores

The Elgin Comets will face off against the Perry Commodores at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Elgin's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Perry has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.

Elgin is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Upper Scioto Valley on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Comets came up short against the Rams, falling 50-24. The Comets were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-16.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Luke Nelson, who picked up 68 receiving yards and a pair of scores. The team also got some help courtesy of Brennon Luikart, who rushed for 73 yards and one TD.

Meanwhile, Perry managed to keep up with Waynesfield-Goshen until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Commodores lost 33-9 to the Tigers. Having soared to a lofty 57 points in the game before, the Commodores couldn't push the score so high this time.

Perry's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Elgin, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 4-4.

Elgin strolled past Perry in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 by a score of 30-13. Will the Comets repeat their success, or do the Commodores have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
