Volleyball Recap: Milford Comes Up Short

After flying high against Walled Lake Western last Thursday, Milford came back down to earth. The Mavericks came up short against the South Lyon Lions on Tuesday, falling 3-0. The Mavericks have struggled against the Lions recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

The defeat didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: South Lyon scored at least 19 points in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 25-19, 25-20.

Lexa Pierson paced Milford's offense, picking up 16 kills. Pierson got some help from Delaney Heflin and her 20 assists. Heflin also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Millie Ashcroft, racking up two apiece.

Milford's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 12-3-1. As for South Lyon, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 17-5.

Milford and South Lyon should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings. The Mavericks (ranked 34th) will meet Williamston (ranked 90th) at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, South Lyon will square off against Walled Lake Western at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (32 vs. 411).
