It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Shawnee Mission North ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, they made off with a 29-28 victory over the Lawrence Lions. The win almost wasn't to be: the Bison were down 14-0 in the second quarter.

Shawnee Mission North can attribute much of their success to Michael Lafosse, who rushed for 56 yards and one score on only five carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Shawnee Mission North was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 213 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Despite the loss, Lawrence still got an impressive performance from Tahj Edwards, who rushed for 157 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.9 yards per carry. Edwards' rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 110 rushing yards.

Shawnee Mission North's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-6. As for Lawrence, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.
