Baseball Game Preview: Peotone Blue Devils vs. Westmont Sentinels

The Peotone Blue Devils will head out on the road to challenge the Westmont Sentinels at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Peotone has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while Westmont will arrive with eight straight victories.

On Tuesday, Peotone didn't have quite enough to beat Reed-Custer and fell 7-6.

Kayden Derkacy was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off six hits. That one earned run gave him a new career-low. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, Declan McMaster was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Tyler Leitelt, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Westmont made easy work of Walther Christian Academy on Wednesday and carried off a 15-3 win. The Sentinels might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by six runs or more this season.

Merrick Bloyd looked comfortable as he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

Westmont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Walther Christian Academy only posted an OBP of .440.

Peotone's defeat dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Westmont, their record now sits at 13-8.
