Soccer Game Preview: Lovejoy vs. Langston Hughes

A feisty cat fight will be fought as Lovejoy face off against Langston Hughes at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Considering both teams were shutout in their prior games, the pair is probably coming into this one with something to prove.

Lovejoy managed to slip by Mundy's Mill the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Wildcats came up short against the Tigers on Monday, falling 12-0. Having soared to a lofty four goals in the game before, Lovejoy's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, Langston Hughes was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They lost 7-0 to Trinity Christian. While losing is never fun, Langston Hughes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia soccer rankings (they are ranked 401st, while Trinity Christian are ranked 155th).

Langston Hughes' loss dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Lovejoy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season.

Lovejoy came out on top in a nail-biter against Langston Hughes when the teams last played back in March of 2022, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
