Football Game Preview: Cedar Mountain Cougars vs. Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots

The Cedar Mountain Cougars will venture away from home to challenge the Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Cedar Mountain is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 57-7 win over Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.

Jackson Guetter had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 249 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 14.6 yards per carry, and also picking up 56 receiving yards. He is becoming a predictor of Cedar Mountain's success: when he posts at least 100 rushing yards the team is undefeated (and 1-3 when he doesn't). Carson Schiller was another key player, throwing for 134 yards and two TDs.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Cedar Mountain was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 416 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 169 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.

Cedar Mountain didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Blake Koerner and Kayse Haala.

Meanwhile, while Hills-Beaver Creek put up plenty of points on Friday, the same can't be said for Mountain Lake/Mountain Lake Christian. The Patriots blew past the Wolverines 60-0. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota football rankings (they are ranked first, while the Wolverines are ranked 48th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Cedar Mountain now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Hills-Beaver Creek, their record is now 7-0.

Cedar Mountain was dealt a bruising 42-8 loss at the hands of Hills-Beaver Creek in their previous matchup back in September of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
