Baseball Recap: Mercer Island Gets the Win

Mercer Island hadn't done well against Inglemoor recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Islanders came out on top in a nail-biter against the Vikings, sneaking past 5-3. This was a revenge game for the Islanders: when they faced off against the Vikings back in March, they had to take a 5-2 defeat.

Mercer Island got a great performance from Kalden Short as he tossed six innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits.

On the hitting side, Mercer Island's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Albertino Pozzo, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Jaxon Hugs Aufranc was another, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Mercer Island has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. As for Inglemoor, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 13-1 and their overall record down to 16-6.

Mercer Island will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Roosevelt at 10:00 a.m. on the 23rd. The Roughriders' pitching crew has only allowed 2.3 runs per game this season, so the Islanders' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Inglemoor, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 3-2 defeat against Liberty on the 15th.
