Basketball Recap: Riverside Snaps 11-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Riverside hadn't done well against Ellwood City recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Riverside Panthers narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Ellwood City Wolverine 40-37. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Panthers have posted since December 1, 2023.

Carah Kreitzer and Delaney Sturgeon certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Kreitzer made all 5 shots she took to post 11 points, while Sturgeon posted six points along with six rebounds and five steals. Sturgeon has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Elsie Sturgeon was another key player, putting up three points in addition to nine boards and three steals.

Riverside's win ended an 11-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-6. As for Ellwood City, they dropped their record down to 8-7 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Riverside will host Quaker Valley at 7:30 p.m. on January 27th. As for Ellwood City, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against New Brighton at 6:00 p.m.
