High school softball stolen base leaders: Alabama signee Larissa Preuitt leads nation, chases state records

Hartselle outfielder also tops country in hits and runs for 6A power.

While Larissa Preuitt chases Alabama state records for hits and runs, she likely will finish as the nation's stolen base queen.

The senior outfielder for Hartselle (50-7-1) has a national-best 85 steals, well ahead of fellow Alabamian McKinnon Howard of Central (Phenix City) with 76. No one else in the nation has more than 70 steals.

In her first 57 games of 2022, Preuitt also leads the nation in hits (97) and runs (99) while batting .571. According to AHSAA website, she is chasing state records of 107 runs and 122 hits. The single-season state stolen base record is 107.

Only 22 girls in state history have piled up 100 hits in a season. During the last three seasons — the Tigers played only five games in 2020 due to the pandemic — Preuitt has 173 hits, 177 runs, 26 doubles, 10 triples and 12 home runs. She stole 48 bases as a junior.

There's plenty of speedy players in the country as at least 100 have stolen 35 bases or more.
