Baseball Recap: Westside Comes Up Short

Westside extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping them down to 4-21. They came up short against the Rutland Hurricanes, falling 13-2. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Hurricanes this season, with their most recent defeat being a 6-2 loss on Friday.

As for Rutland, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-13. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games.

For Rutland's part, Tate Summerday was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Summerday also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Rutland is 5-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-11 otherwise. Summerday was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hunter Floyd, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. Vance Hinton also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

As of now, neither Westside nor Rutland have any future games scheduled.
