Basketball Recap: King City Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Alizah Carrillo and Crystal Paramo

After flying high against Santa Catalina last Monday, King City came back down to earth. The King City Mustangs took a 43-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Palma Chieftains. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 34-24 back in January.

Despite the loss, King City had strong showings from Crystal Paramo, who posted eight points and seven rebounds, and Alizah Carrillo, who scored 13 points and six boards. That's the most rebounds Carrillo has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Amity Hearne, who put up no points and 11 boards.

Even though they lost, King City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 14 consecutive games.

King City's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-13. As for Palma, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. King City has already played their next contest (against Seaside), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Palma will welcome Santa Catalina at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Palma has three straight victories, Santa Catalina has eight straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
