Soccer Game Preview: Johnston vs. Des Moines East

Johnston is a perfect 3-0 against Des Moines East since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Dragons will be playing in front of their home fans against the Scarlets at 7:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Johnston is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Iowa's top teams: Valley, who was ranked second at the time (Johnston was ranked 15th). The Dragons fell 2-0 to the Tigers on Friday.

Meanwhile, Des Moines East was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against Marshalltown, falling 6-2.

Des Moines East's loss dropped their record down to 13-3-1. As for Johnston, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5-5.

Johnston took their victory against Des Moines East in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 4-1 score. Will the Dragons repeat their success, or do the Scarlets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
