Baseball Recap: Manteno Snags Eighth Win in Last Nine Games

Herscher typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Manteno proved too difficult a challenge. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 victory over the Tigers. The game was the first time the Panthers have beaten the Tigers on their field since May 9, 2023.

Braden Campbell was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jake Stevens, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

Manteno is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Herscher, the defeat snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 24-5 record.

Coming up, Manteno will look to defend their home field on Friday against Marian Catholic at 4:30 p.m. As for Herscher, they will head out on the road to square off against Dwight at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Trojans' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
