Basketball Recap: Janessa Barnes' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sierra over Mountain House

On Tuesday, the Sierra Timberwolves ended up a good deal behind the Mountain House Mustangs and lost 55-38. While losing is never fun, the Timberwolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 458th, while the Mustangs are ranked 179th).

Sierra's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Janessa Barnes, who posted eight points along with 11 boards and three blocks. Mya Everett was another key player, putting up 12 points and three blocks.

Even though they lost, Sierra smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Mountain House had a senior duo take command as Jariah Indalecio almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds and Erica Foster dropped a double-double on 12 points and 19 boards. Those 19 rebounds set a new season-high mark for Foster. The team also got some help courtesy of Surianti Bakri, who had six points in addition to eight boards and four steals.

Sierra now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Mountain House, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-4.

Sierra didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 36-30 loss against Patterson on the 23rd. As for Mountain House, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 71-27 win against Manteca on the 23rd.
