Basketball Recap: Calexico Mission Sets Scoring Season-High Against Julian

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Calexico Mission). They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Julian Eagles on Wednesday, sneaking past 23-20. The victory was familiar territory for the RoadRunners who have now won three matches in a row.

Calexico Mission's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carla Mariscal, who posted 12 points and four steals. Those 12 points gave Mariscal a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Melissa Ma, who scored two points and 11 steals.

Despite the loss, Julian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Avalina Ortiz had nine points.

Calexico Mission now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Julian, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Warner the next time they take the court. Julian will head out to face Warner at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, while Calexico Mission will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
