Football Game Preview: Morton Panthers vs. Raymond Rangers

Morton has gone a perfect 4-0 against Raymond recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Panthers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rangers at 7:00 p.m. Morton will be strutting in after a victory while Raymond will be coming in after a defeat.

It was a proper cat-fight when Morton faced off against Mendenhall last Friday. The Panthers walked away with a 14-7 win over the Tigers. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.

Morton can attribute much of their success to Xavier McDonald, who picked up 101 receiving yards and one TD.

Meanwhile, Raymond played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Forest, falling 28-6. The Rangers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 21-0.

Morton will have to contain Cj Martin as he made an impact in Raymond's last game. He rushed for 164 yards and one score while picking up 9.1 yards per carry. Martin showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 64 yards.

Raymond didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Dalton Terry and Ahmad Anderson. Anderson is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made six or more in each of the last five games he's played.

Morton now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Raymond, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-6.

Thursday's game might be decided on the ground. Morton has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 176.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Raymond struggles in that department as they've been averaging 162.9 rushing yards. There's a good chance Thursday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Morton took their victory against Raymond in their previous matchup back in September of 2018 by a conclusive 28-3 score. In that contest, the Panthers amassed a halftime lead of 21-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
