Preview: Stockdale Mustangs vs. Centennial Golden Hawks
The Stockdale Mustangs will head out on the road to take on the Centennial Golden Hawks at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Stockdale can finally bid farewell to their six-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. They walked away with a 46-38 victory over Garces Memorial. The win was just what Stockdale needed coming off of a 54-28 loss in their prior contest.
Stockdale can attribute much of their success to Ashley Wilson, who scored eight points, and Saniya Smith, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, Centennial came tearing into Wednesday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 49.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They managed a 48-42 win over Frontier. Given Centennial's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 177th, while Frontier is ranked 425th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Stockdale's victory ended a 13-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-15. As for Centennial, they pushed their record up to 15-4 with that win, which was their seventh straight at home.
Stockdale took a serious blow against Centennial when the teams last played on January 10th, falling 67-17. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Stockdale was down 37-13.
