Basketball Recap: Natalie Gomez Key Part of Team Effort in Vikings Win

Downey extended their postseason success on Saturday against Godinez Fundamental. They had just enough and edged the Godinez Fundamental Grizzlies out 33-31. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Vikings have posted since January 6th.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Downey to victory, but perhaps none more so than Natalie Gomez, who posted six points and 18 rebounds. Gomez has become a key player for Downey: the team is 10-4 when she posts at least ten boards, but 6-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Bella Mejia, who had 12 points.

Several Grizzlies players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Valerie Esteban, who earned seven points and three steals. Valeria Arcos was another key player, putting up six points and nine rebounds.

Downey is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a massive bump to their 16-14 record this season. As for Godinez Fundamental, their loss dropped their record down to 15-13.

Looking ahead, Downey will be playing at home against Chaparral at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive. Godinez Fundamental does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
