Basketball Game Preview: Cathedral Catholic Dons vs. Santa Margarita Eagles

After both having extra time off, the Cathedral Catholic Dons and the Santa Margarita Eagles will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Cathedral Catholic comes in on six and Santa Margarita on four.

Cathedral Catholic is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They were the clear victor by a 61-40 margin over La Costa Canyon two weeks ago. With that win, the Dons brought their scoring average up to 50.5 points per game.

Cathedral Catholic relied on the efforts of Maddie Moeller, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 boards, and Mckinnley Hanlon, who went 7 of 17 on her way to 17 points along with six steals and five assists. Hanlon has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 19 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Anastasia (Ana) Miskova, who posted five points.

Cathedral Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Santa Margarita earned a 52-39 victory over Mira Costa last Saturday.

Santa Margarita has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.7 points per game. As for Cathedral Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 6-0.
