Basketball Recap: West Philadelphia Makes It 14 in a Row at Home

West Philadelphia was handed a heart-breaking two-point loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Abington Friends on Saturday. The West Philadelphia Speedboys couldn't have asked for a better start to 2025 than the 57-23 blowout they got against Abington Friends. The Speedboys have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 28 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead West Philadelphia to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kashay Ryder, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 29 rebounds. Those 29 rebounds gave Ryder a new career-high. Donajah Tindle was another key player, going 7 for 17 on her way to 20 points.

The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.2 points per game. As for Abington Friends, they are on a 15-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

West Philadelphia will venture away from home to face off against Dobbins-Randolph Vo-Tech at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Abington Friends, they will welcome Shipley at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Shipley will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Abington Friends surely won't give up without a fight.
