Football Recap: Jamari Reeves' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Burke County over Thomson + How To Watch

After flying high against Glenn Hills last Friday, Burke County came back down to earth. The Bears took a 24-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Thomson Bulldogs on Friday. The Bears were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2024.

Burke County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jamari Reeves, who rushed for 70 yards and one TD. Reeves was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 56 yards.

Thomson got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Markevion Jones out in front who rushed for 111 yards and one score on only eight carries. Zay Brinson also helped with two touchdowns in total.

Burke County's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-2. As for Thomson, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-3.

Burke County and Thomson should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings. The Bears will take on Josey at 7:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (191 vs. 445). Meanwhile, Thomson (ranked 172nd) will meet Glenn Hills (ranked 457th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
