Basketball Recap: Thursday's Win Is Gilbert's Fifth in Last Six Outings + How To Watch

Mesquite came into Thursday's game looking for another win against Gilbert, but Malachi Jones wouldn't allow it. The Tigers secured a 68-63 W over the Wildcats on Thursday thanks in part to Jones, who dropped a double-double with 22 points and 12 boards. He is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down nine or more in each of the last four games he's played.

Another player making a difference was Adam Medina, who went 7-for-12 to rack up 16 points. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.

Mesquite lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Oliver Rogers, who shot 71% from the field on his way to 14 points. Crew Jorde was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Gilbert is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. As for Mesquite, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Gilbert will head out to face off against Cesar Chavez at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers will be up against the Champions' rather soft defense (which has allowed 67.86 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Mesquite, they are taking a road trip to take on Westview at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats will need to watch out since the Knights have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
